I rarely give a perfect score. So when I say Pursuit of Jade (honest review) gets a 10 out of 10, I mean it. I’ve finished all 40 episodes, and this is one of those dramas that genuinely surprised me in the best way possible. I’m a fan of xianxia, wuxia, and xuanhuan — which means I go in with high expectations and a high chance of being let down. That didn’t happen here. Not even once.

How Was It to Watch?

The Actors
Tian Xi Wei is wonderful as Fan Chang Yu. She brings a magnetic energy to the role that makes you pay attention every time she’s on screen. Zhang Ling He as the male lead is everything you could want — handsome, charismatic, and deeply committed to his character. The two of them look like they stepped straight out of a novel, and they bring their roles to life in a way that feels completely natural.
The supporting cast deserves just as much praise. Ning and Falcon are charming and add a lot of warmth and humor to the story. Snow Kong and Deng Kai as the secondary couple are also a highlight — their chemistry is so strong that in any other drama they might have stolen the whole show. The fact that they didn’t says everything about how captivating the main couple truly is.
Even the villains are well-written. They are not generic or one-dimensional. They have real motivations, personalities, and depth — the kind that make you understand them even when you’re against them.
The Chemistry
The connection between the two leads is electric. Their scenes together feel effortless and genuine, and honestly, even a single look between them is enough to make you swoon. What makes their romance special is that it never relies on cheap drama tricks. Even when they are apart, you can feel how much they mean to each other — through their eyes, their actions, and the way they always show up for one another. The word that best describes this couple is loyalty.
The Music and Overall Look
The soundtrack is one of the strongest parts of the show. Songs by JJ Lin, Zhang Bichen, Yisa Yu, and others give the series an emotional depth that stays with you long after each episode. The visual effects are impressive for a Chinese production, and the camera work adds a sense of grandeur that fits the tone perfectly. The costumes are striking and distinctive — the kind that leave a lasting impression and feel like a signature for the series.
The Good and the Not-So-Good
There is very little to complain about here. The characters are well-developed, the story is tight, the pacing is smooth, and the ending is one of the most satisfying I have ever seen in this genre. If anything, the only note I’d give is to skip the post-credits scene — it doesn’t add much and slightly breaks the mood of the finale.
